A Guide to Safe and Effective Giving

State Disclosures

Dear Reader,

Last year in the United States, households donated an average $2,030 to their favorite charitable causes. A lot of people giving a little bit to different charities really goes a long way to help these charities fulfill their mission. You are a charitable person otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this, so we wanted to show you how the most charitable of us should give to charity, which is safely and efficiently. If you ever have doubt about a charity’s validity, simply go to the Official IRS Website to look up a charity’s status!

Don’t Be Intimidated by Online Giving, Be Kind to Our Environment!

“Online giving has the potential for enormous good by saving billions of dollars in fundraising costs and allowing charities to more efficiently communicate with donors. If your favorite charities take adequate precautions, giving to them online should be no more risky than handing a waiter in a restaurant your credit card. By following these tips, you can minimize the chance of potential problems and have a safe and secure online giving experience” -Charity Watch.org – Here are some tips to tell if your charity is safe and secure for you to donate with online:

  • Make sure they have a way for you to contact them.
  • Be sure they provide their physical charity address for you as well.

Commit for the long term

When you feel confident and passionate about a cause, consider donating on a monthly basis. Most legitimate charities have an automated monthly giving service. This is not only more efficient for them, but also for you as well. You’ll feel more engaged in your giving and in the end this charity will know that they can truly count on you.

Always Spread the word

Once you have donated to your cause be sure to share with your friends what you have done. It isn’t boastful it simply helps the charity get its message spread even farther with your help. Challenge others to match your donation via email, Facebook, a phone call or even in a text message! These referrals are the lifeblood of charities and help them fulfill their mission.

“That’s what I consider true generosity: You give your all, and yet you always feel as if it costs you nothing.”
